16043Territorial Rule in Colombia and the Transformation of the Llanos Orientales (by Jane M. Rausch)
http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794867
“An important contribution to Colombian historical writing. Rausch’s works have helped orient and stimulate a school of historical writing in Colombia.”—James D. Henderson, author of Modernization in Colombia: The Laureano Gomez Years, 1889–1965
“With this fourth and final volume, Rausch completes her authoritative cycle of studies charting the history of Colombia’s Llanos Orientales. Her work can take its rightful place alongside that of Orlando Fals Borda’s innovative four-volume exploration of the Colombian Atlantic coast, Historia Doble de la Costa.”—W. John Green, author of Gaitanismo, Left Liberalism, and Popular Mobilization in Colombia
Prior to the 1980s, Colombia’s Llanos Orientales was a vast plain of tropical grassland east of the Andes. Populated mainly by indigenous people, the area was considered “primitive” until exploitable petroleum deposits were discovered. The finding transformed the Llanos into the fastest growing region in the country.
In this volume, Jane Rausch surveys sixty years of history in the Llanos, between 1946 and 2010, combining perspective gained by her first-hand experiences with archival research. She examines the Colombian government’s Llanos policies and the political, economic, and social changes they have brought about. Rausch’s large-scale historical survey of the region ultimately reveals that as a South American frontier, the Llanos is politically and economically critical to both Colombia’s present and its future. http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794866
Rediscover some of the most courageous dancers of the twentieth century "Providing a broad examination of the solo that spans the twentieth century, the expertly curated essays in this volume bring to light specific soloists' work while also reflecting larger trends in concert dance and interrogating issues of aesthetics, performativity, gender, race, and nation. It is a welcome addition to the field." Hannah Kosstrin, Reed College "Diverse in both the dance artists considered and research approaches utilized, this thoughtful and engaging collection of essays enriches the growing body of dance scholarship by introducing us to the works of an array of daring and creative solo dance artists." Linda Caruso Haviland, Bryn Mawr College Soloists ignited the modern dance movement and have been a source of its constant renewal. Pioneering dancers such as Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis, and Maud Allan embodied the abstraction and individuality of the larger modernist movement while making astounding contributions to their art. Nevertheless, solo dancers have received far less attention in the literature than have performers and choreographers associated with large companies. In On Stage Alone, editors Claudia Gitelman and Barbara Palfy take an international approach to the solo dance performance. The essays in this standout volume broaden the dance canon by bringing to light modern dance soloists from Europe, Asia, and the Americas who have shaped significant, sustained c Read more... ]]>Fri, 04 Sep 2015 09:58:58 GMT8.8cm Flak 18/36/37 L/56 (Militaria in detail 11) [Polish / English] (by P. http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794860
In this introduction to set theory and logic, the author discusses first order logic, and gives a rigorous axiomatic presentation of Zermelo-Fraenkel set theory. He includes many methodological remarks and explanations, and demonstrates how the basic concepts of mathematics can be reduced to set theory. He explains concepts and results of recursion theory in intuitive terms, and reaches the limitative results of Skolem, Tarski, Church and Godel (the celebrated incompleteness theorems). For students of mathematics and philosophy, this book provides an excellent introduction to logic and set theory. http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794857
In this volume, a tower of surreal number fields is defined, each being a real-closed field having a canonical formal power series structure and many other higher order properties. Formal versions of such theorems as the Implicit Function Theorem hold over such fields. The Main Theorem states that every formal power series in a finite number of variables over a surreal field has a positive radius of hyper-convergence within which it may be evaluated. Analytic functions of several surreal and surcomplex variables can then be defined and studied. Some first results in the one variable case are derived. A primer on Conway's field of surreal numbers is also given. Throughout the manuscript, great efforts have been made to make the volume fairly self-contained. Much exposition is given. Many references are cited. While experts may want to turn quickly to new results, students should be able to find the explanation of many elementary points of interest. On the other hand, many new results are given, and much mathematics is brought to bear on the problems at hand.

http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794855
Since the publication of the first edition in 1976, there has been a notable increase of interest in the development of logic. This is evidenced by the several conferences on the history of logic, by a journal devoted to the subject, and by an accumulation of new results. This increased activity and the new results - the chief one being that Boole's work in probability is best viewed as a probability logic - were influential circumstances conducive to a new edition. Chapter 1, presenting Boole's ideas on a mathematical treatment of logic, from their emergence in his early 1847 work on through to his immediate successors, has been considerably enlarged. Chapter 2 includes additional discussion of the ``uninterpretable'' notion, both semantically and syntactically. Chapter 3 now includes a revival of Boole's abandoned propositional logic and, also, a discussion of his hitherto unnoticed brush with ancient formal logic. Chapter 5 has an improved explanation of why Boole's probability method works. Chapter 6, Applications and Probability Logic, is a new addition. Changes from the first edition have brought about a three-fold increase in the bibliography.

Comprehensive in its selection of topics and results, this self-contained text examines the relative strengths and consequences of the axiom of choice. Each chapter contains several problems, graded according to difficulty, and concludes with some historical remarks.
An introduction to the use of the axiom of choice is followed by explorations of consistency, permutation models, and independence. Subsequent chapters examine embedding theorems, models with finite supports, weaker versions of the axiom, and nontransferable statements. The final sections consider mathematics without choice, cardinal numbers in set theory without choice, and properties that contradict the axiom of choice, including the axiom of determinacy and related topics

Probably the most celebrated controversy in all of the history of science was that between Newton and Leibniz over the invention of the calculus. The argument ranged far beyond a mere priority dispute and took on the character of a war between two different philosophies of nature. http://www.freebookspot.es/Comments.aspx?Element_ID=794839
This first part of a two-volume set offers a modern account of the representation theory of finite dimensional associative algebras over an algebraically closed field. The authors present this topic from the perspective of linear representations of finite-oriented graphs (quivers) and homological algebra.
The self-contained treatment constitutes an elementary, up-to-date introduction to the subject using, on the one hand, quiver-theoretical techniques and, on the other, tilting theory and integral quadratic forms. Key features include many illustrative examples, plus a large number of end-of-chapter exercises. The detailed proofs make this work suitable both for courses and seminars, and for self-study.
